Frequently asked questions

Dreamland Bedding is a New Zealand owned sleep brand that designs its mattresses in NZ and supplies beds, headboards, kids beds, bedroom furniture and pillows through retailers across the country. Below are the questions we are asked most.

Buying and stockists

Where can I buy Dreamland mattresses and beds in New Zealand?
Dreamland is sold through a network of authorised retailers across both islands, not directly to the public. Use the Store Finder on the Find a stockist page or on any product page: enter your postcode and it lists stockists from nearest to furthest. Dreamland designs its mattresses in NZ and coordinates the rest of the bedroom range for NZ homes.
Can I buy directly from Dreamland or visit your warehouse?
No. The website is a catalogue, and all purchases are made through our retail partners. Our East Tamaki site is a warehouse and office, not a public showroom.
How do I find my nearest stockist?
Enter your postcode in the Store Finder on the Find a stockist page and it shows the stockists closest to you, ordered nearest to furthest. Each product page also lists retailers that carry that product. If nothing shows nearby, contact us and we will help.
Does every stockist carry the full Dreamland range?
No. No retailer carries the entire Dreamland range, and even chain stores can vary their selection from store to store, since store sizes differ. The Store Finder tells you which retailers carry a given product, but it is always worth calling a store ahead to confirm a specific model is on display before you travel.

Choosing a mattress

How do I choose the right mattress firmness?
Firmness comes down to sleeping position and body weight. As a general guide: side sleepers usually suit plush to medium (pressure relief at hip and shoulder), back sleepers suit medium to firm (even support), and front sleepers and heavier sleepers usually suit firm (stops the hips sinking). Dreamland mattresses come in Plush, Medium, and Firm so you can match the feel to how you sleep. The Find your feel selector on this site can also match you in under a minute.
What mattress sizes are available in New Zealand?
Dreamland mattresses come in the standard NZ sizes: Single, Long Single, King Single, Double, Queen, King, and Super King. Sizes are built to NZ dimensions so they fit NZ bed frames and bedding.
What is the difference between pocket spring, memory foam, and latex?
Pocket spring uses individually wrapped coils that move independently, so movement on one side is less likely to disturb the other. Memory foam moulds to your shape and relieves pressure points. Latex is naturally springy, breathable, and durable, with a more responsive feel than memory foam. Dreamland uses pocket spring systems (such as the Precision7 zoned system) with comfort layers like CoolGel memory foam on several models.
What is a mattress in a box?
A mattress in a box is compressed, rolled, and shipped in a compact box, then expands once unboxed. In the Dreamland range, the Quasar and Chelsea ship this way, which makes them easier to deliver and move through narrow hallways and stairwells.
Which Dreamland mattress suits back support needs?
For back support, most people are guided toward even, zoned support that keeps the spine aligned, typically a medium to firm feel. Dreamland zoned pocket spring models (Precision7) are built for spinal support. For a persistent or medical back issue, talk to your health professional, and always try the feel in store before deciding.
Do you make a mattress for athletes or active recovery?
Yes. The Aurora is a NZ designed mattress built for athletes and active sleepers, with a Precision7 zoned pocket spring system, CoolGel memory foam for temperature regulation, and EdgeGuard edge support. Active sleep and recovery is the brand focus.

Delivery, returns, and trials

How is my mattress delivered?
Dreamland supplies retailers ex warehouse (we do not drop ship), so delivery to you is arranged by the retailer you buy from, under their own delivery policy. Ask your stockist about delivery options, timing, and any fees.
Is there a sleep trial or comfort guarantee?
Any sleep trial or comfort guarantee is set by the retailer you purchase from, and it varies from store to store. Dreamland does not run a trial programme of its own, so please check the trial or returns policy directly with your stockist before you buy.
How do returns and change of mind work?
Returns and exchanges are handled under the policy of the retailer you bought from, because your purchase contract is with them. Dreamland does not process consumer returns directly. Keep your proof of purchase and contact your retailer. Your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 always apply through the retailer.

Warranty, lifespan, and care

Who handles a warranty claim?
Your first point of contact is always the retailer you bought from, since your purchase contract is with them. They help with the claim and work with the Dreamland team behind the scenes. The full claim workflow is on the Warranty page.
What does the warranty cover?
Dreamland products are covered against manufacturing faults and defects for the term that applies to that category. Mattress issues such as faulty workmanship or abnormal sagging beyond the stated threshold are typically covered. Normal wear, comfort preference changes, accidental damage, and misuse are not. Your Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 rights apply regardless. Full detail is on the Warranty page.
Do warranty periods differ across the range?
Yes, and the terms are stated plainly on the Warranty page: mattresses carry 5 years (60 months), except the Quasar range at 1 year (12 months); beds, headboards, bedroom furniture, and kids beds carry 1 year (12 months); pillows are not covered by a manufacturer warranty. Some retailers also choose to offer their own extended cover on top of the manufacturer term, so it is worth asking your stockist what applies to the specific model you are considering.
How long should a mattress actually last?
A warranty covers manufacturing faults; it is not a promise of lifespan. Independent guidance, including the Sleep Foundation, suggests most mattresses are best replaced around every 6 to 8 years, for both support and hygiene reasons (a mattress gradually accumulates dust mites, moisture and allergens over time, regardless of cleaning). With good care, rotating where recommended, using a protector, and airing it regularly, many Dreamland mattresses stay comfortable well beyond their warranty period. When to replace is really about comfort, support and hygiene, not just the warranty length.
How do I care for my mattress and protect the warranty?
Use a suitable, supportive base, rotate where recommended, use a mattress protector, and avoid the common mistakes (dragging, standing on it, removing the production tag) that can void a claim. Full guidance is on the Care instructions page.
Are Dreamland kids beds and bunks safe to NZ standards?
Yes. Dreamland kids beds and bunks are tested to AS/NZS 4220, the NZ and Australian safety standard for bunk beds, with third party test certification on file.
